I have not posted any blogs since last summer. What can I say? I’ve been trying to find balance in life amidst the chaos. I’ve also been a bit stunned by the events in my home country (the United Sates) following what seems to be an ongoing attempt at coup d’etat. Will it succeed? It’s challenging to read the headlines and feel so powerless as the United States seem to morally regress day by day. Meanwhile, I’m trying to live my life in a way that aligns with my personal values. For now, that means structure, routine, and staying present to appreciate the moments that pass so quickly.

Rainy morning in the rose section of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
I logged off of Meta for 4 months and was averaging about a book a week in my spare time. A few weeks ago, I picked up Joan Didion’s Notes to John. This one was controversial because it was posthumously published. It read more like a journal, which I found fascinating. As a major admirer of Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking, reading Notes to John felt like a behind the scenes look at some of the events leading up to all that transpired in the former.
I came across this card and found myself wishing that I could send it to back in time to myself on several occasions. Also, it seems an apt public service reminder to myself and others who might be tempted to do some chopping during these crazy times.
Vibrant purple orchids in a climate-controlled greenhouse at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. (Can you tell I go there a lot?)
A huge old tree in Prospect Park silhouetted against a winter sky. i feel like there is a lot of wisdom in ancient trees. They’ve seen so much, and they remain steadfast through all the seasons. That seems like an apt place to end this brief post.

May you be well and finding your anchor.
