What an exciting season it’s been. I can feel things shifting — how about you? I’ve been meaning to share some images from a mid-October trip to Southampton. I’d never been to the Hamptons before because, let’s face it, I’m not that fancy. I was pleasantly surprised, though. The place was super charming, even having been there during the off-season. The beaches were stunning — the sand was a gorgeous quartz that felt so soft between your toes. I initially chose Southampton because I could access it from Brooklyn without needing a car. (Montauk had been my first choice, but it seemed slightly more car-dependent.) I didn’t realize how historic Southampton was until I descended the LIRR train platform and started trekking towards my hotel. The signage greeting me stated that this was the oldest English Settlement in the State of New York. The land was originally home to the Shinnecock Nation, whose population was decimated post-colonization. English settlers from Lynn, Massachusetts milked the land for fishing, whaling, and farming. During the 20th Century, this became a popular summer destination and numerous estates were built in the area. The town has shown up in pop culture in recent decades, being featured in episodes of Sex and the City, Real Housewives of New York City and more. Walking around the village and window-shopping, I drew fashion inspiration for those days when I need to switch it up from Sporty-Spice-meets-boho to preppy. Hope you enjoy!

  1. Love all your photos! Choosing Southampton over Montauk was a wise choice! Back in my NYC days, I tried to visit Montauk and the deep Hamptons for a day trip, and we politely but firmly upon exiting our car was greeted by a woman walking her dog who asked, “Hello, do you own a house here? Well, we don’t allow daily visitors!” She knew we didn’t live there (me, and my BF at the time) and were coming from the city for a ‘daily visit.’ Anyway – your photos are as gorgeous as ever, and I’m so glad you had such a nice holiday there! That beach photo after sunrise is especially lovely.

    1. Thank you for the kind commentary, and for stopping by! Wow, what a snooty lady you two encountered in Montauk, by the sounds of it. “It’s a free country, ma’am” – lol. Come to think of it, I did see similar signage at the beach (where the sunrise photo was taken) saying something about no daily visitors, but there were so few people there at that time of day. I fortunately had full access! It was a lovely getaway from the city, to be sure.

Preppy yet colonial. Oh that’s hat! Head in the clouds, feet on the ground. Great pic’s G! Enjoy 😊.

    1. As in Puritan Chic? Haha, that might fly in some circles.

      And thank you!
