Technicolor Staycation

July 7, 2016 by Gina Marie

As of today (Thursday) I’ve had one week off: no work, limited responsibility, and beautiful weather here on the shore. And my “staycation” is not over yet! I have three days left before a month-long trip to Minneapolis, wherein I’ll be participating in an intensive yoga teacher training. This trip will be the capstone of a year full of personal transformation on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. For me, the theme of the past 365 days has been “making […]

Farewell to a Wooded Wonderland

May 30, 2015 by Gina Marie

Four years ago, Philadelphia beckoned. With its historic streets, ample museums, and plethora of restaurants, there was never any reason to be bored.  What surprised me the most, though, was the vast geographic area the city took up (135 square miles, to be precise). Living in the northwest corner of the city, my husband Jeff and I often cruised a stretch of road called Lincoln Drive, which passed underneath a deeply forested area that reminded us of Jurassic Park. I […]

In Half-Dreams That Shift and Roll

April 11, 2013 by Gina Marie

“Thin are the night-skirts left behind By daybreak hours that onward creep, And thin, alas! the shred of sleep that wavers with the spirit’s wind: But in half-dreams that shift and roll And still, remember and forget, My soul this hour has drawn your soul A little nearer yet.” -Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882), from “Insomnia” Bedtime for Baby Girl, © 2013 by Gina Marie Lazar Lovrencevic. It’s What’s Inside that Counts

February 14, 2013 by Gina Marie

Some believe that a girl should never give up a good apartment—not even for marriage. However, I didn’t get that particular memo until long after I’d already married (and long after I’d traded in my studio for a larger unit, sans the dazzling skyline view). Do I wish that I’d kept the place, so that Jeff and I might have a cozy little unit in which to reside whenever we returned to Minneapolis for a brief visit? Not really. After […]

Pugnacious Tendencies

January 9, 2013 by Gina Marie

Meet Lexi, a six-month old pug puppy. At times, this furry creature bears a striking resemblance to Gizmo, the fictional mugwai character from the movie Gremlins. Pugnacious to the core, Lexi tends to quarrel with her Boxer cousin, Baby Girl. Nevertheless, she can be awfully sweet when she sets her mind to it.
