It’s What’s Inside that Counts

February 14, 2013 by Gina Marie

Some believe that a girl should never give up a good apartment—not even for marriage. However, I didn’t get that particular memo until long after I’d already married (and long after I’d traded in my studio for a larger unit, sans the dazzling skyline view). Do I wish that I’d kept the place, so that Jeff and I might have a cozy little unit in which to reside whenever we returned to Minneapolis for a brief visit? Not really. After […]

Shine!

January 25, 2013 by Gina Marie

“Shine! shine! shine! Pour down your warmth, great sun! While we bask, we two together. Two together! Winds blow south, or winds blow north, Day come white, or night come black,, Home, or rivers and mountains from home, Singing all time, minding no time, While we two keep together.” -Walt Whitman (1819-1892), from “Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking” Kiss (Pencil on paper, 2008)

Pen Loves Paper

July 21, 2012 by Gina Marie

“Don’t forget, mister, I’m not just a bimbo with a helium voice. I’m no rococo parvenu pillhead. I’ve read your Rilke, your Montesquieu. Really, I’m not as dumb as I look. Or maybe I am.” -Barbara Hamby, from “Betty Boop’s Bebop” Farewell to the Roaring Twenties, (2009)

A Little New York Love

April 10, 2012 by Gina Marie

Visits to New York are like fingerprints: no two are ever alike. Here are some images from my most recent trip to the greatest American city (and, some would argue, the greatest city on earth). You decide. Painting with light from the Brooklyn Bridge. It was Passover during our visit, and many people were dressed for the Sabbath. (I’m not fluent in Hebrew, so if anyone could translate this for me, that would be awesome.) Cool artwork in the Bowling […]

Philadelphia Photo Journal, Part Un

August 5, 2011 by Gina Marie

I recently found myself in Philadelphia, although I’m still not entirely sure how it happened. Luckily, I remembered to pack a camera. Here are a few images I’ve captured so far . . . Oh, thank God they still drink espresso in this part of the country. The bridges of Philadelphia County. Errr . . . wasn’t that a Lenny Kravitz song? Kitties is cool and all that, but I like the real big cats. Mural near Spring Garden Street. […]

And Now We’re Married

November 2, 2010 by Gina Marie

The ceremony took place on a Friday morning in the Garden of the Gods (Colorado Springs). Picture this: two old friends-turned-lovers, exchanging heartfelt words, surrounded on all sides by ancient rock formations, trees, sky, and warm autumn sunshine. I got to work this morning and the woman in the cubicle next to mine congratulated me (in her own peculiar way) by asking: “Couldn’t you have just gotten another cat?”
