At the Shore, Version 2.0

It seems to be a rite of passage for a Philadelphian to take the 60-plus mile trek to the New Jersey coastline. This was my second visit (the first having been to New Jersey’s only dog-friendly beach in Manasquan). This most recent visit was to Ocean City. Here, one finds miles of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, plus a boardwalk with restaurants, arcades, and tons of shopping. 10 a.m. Saturday, Somewhere in the Mid-Atlantic

As far as American East Coast cities go, Philadelphia sometimes gets a bad rap. But the longer I live here, the more I realize how much beauty surrounds me everywhere. Sure there is poverty, violence, and urban decay . . . but these things co-exist with murals, music, and vibrant urban markets. For those who might otherwise refuse to give Philly a second glance, take a closer look and you may find that this city is definitely worth a visit.
