A Moment of Change

June 1, 2020 by Gina Marie

Allyship towards people of color involves recognizing the racial biases that may live within me and committing to counter these subtle, insidious patterns of thinking. I can choose to speak up and ask for feedback from trusted peers of color, instead of remaining silent as I might otherwise be inclined to do. Similarly, I can seek to learn about the history of racism and ways in which discrimination has impacted and continues to impact POC today. I can make an effort to live life with compassion, respecting and honoring differences rather than seeing them as barriers.

It’s time for a fresh start and, apparently, a fresh snowfall. (Thank you, Winter Storm Hercules.) I’m a Minnesotan by birth, so I should be used to this. Still, even I–who have lived in Philadelphia going on three years–was surprised by the intensity of last night’s storm. I attempted to capture it from my […]

Reflections of Minneapolis

October 4, 2013 by Gina Marie

“All that you are seeking is also seeking you. If you sit still, it will find you. It has been waiting for you a long time.” -Clarissa Pinkola Estes Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA: I’ve left her behind time and again, but I always return. Whenever I’m away too long, I miss the city dearly. Recently, I heeded Clarissa Pinkola Estes’s advice and hopped aboard an airplane and sat very still. Within two hours I was magically transported back to the land […]
