Day 8 in Oaxaca

May 25, 2019 by Gina Marie

I love it here in the southwestern Mexican state of Oaxaca. The capital, Oaxaca de Juárez, which I have dubbed “ODJ”, makes for the perfect balance between relaxed and urban, and between grounded and sublime. ODJ is an undeniably unique, colorful, and charming city. Inquiring about my travels, my sister recently asked, “So, is this the real Mexico, or are there lots of Americans there?” I answered, “Both.” And for the next four weeks, I am fortunate to be among them.

A Stroll Through Downtown Portland, Maine

April 10, 2016 by Gina Marie

After several months of having lived in the extremely suburban Jersey Shore region, a visit to this hip urban New England city felt like a breath of fresh air for my soul. I loved the silhouette created by this couple against the backdrop of an urban scene in the bright afternoon sun. Passing a children’s boutique, I was poignantly reminded that my nephew Robbie would be turning six in a few weeks and I had no idea what to get him.  I took delight in the surreal effects […]

Summertime By The Sea

July 27, 2015 by Gina Marie

Yesterday, I wandered a two block stretch of Sea Bright, one of the many seaside boroughs in Monmouth County, New Jersey. On this occasion, I challenged myself to take photos using solely manual settings on my Nikon D3100. After capturing these shots, I hopped into the car — taking a deep breath and inhaling the delightfully minty aroma of my new car freshener shaped like a flip-flop to complete the coastal experience. La dee dah . . . bumper-to-bumper traffic is to be expected along […]

The Princeton 15

July 10, 2015 by Gina Marie

Is it possible to fall in love with a university campus? If so, then Princeton has won my heart. I hope my sweetie Jeff doesn’t get too jealous. I drove 45 minutes west from my new hometown on the Shore, and lo and behold, found myself on the campus of one of America’s most prestigious institutions of higher education. I brought my camera and preserved 99 images on my trusty Nikon, of which I’ve whittled down to the following 15 for your pure […]

Thirsty Thorsday

March 5, 2015 by Gina Marie

We interrupt the regularly scheduled broadcast of Chicago travel posts to give you an update on Winter Storm Thor currently transpiring in parts of the Midwest and Northeast United States. The following pictures were captured in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia. Now, time for some hot tea. Thanks for joining me on this Thirsty Thorsday!

Another Day in Chicago

February 26, 2015 by Gina Marie

“What do you want for Valentine’s Day, honey?” my husband Jeff asked. “A Michael Kors handbag,” I replied without batting an eyelash. “But you know, for the same amount of money, we could take a trip somewhere cool.” In the end, we settled on the latter. And by “cool,” I wasn’t kidding around. With temps in the teens for much of our trip, we had little recourse than to seek indoor activities. We visited Second City and Zanies, two well-known Chicago […]

A Day in Chicago

February 12, 2015 by Gina Marie

Although Chicago doesn’t generally top anyone’s list for travel destinations in February, I nevertheless found my spirit rejuvenated by this little trip to the (bitterly cold) Windy City. The mercury didn’t top twenty degrees Fahrenheit today, but I was too excited to care. Following are a few of my favorite shots from Day 1 of my travels. Urban Skyscape A Police Officer Dining, in Full Uniform, at XOCO Restaurant by Rick Bayless Fire Escape Cash Register at XOCO Restaurant by Rick Bayless in Near […]

Nueva York: The Latest Visit

January 17, 2015 by Gina Marie

For the first time in several years, I paid a trip to the Big Apple (or, as one might call it in Spanish, la Gran Manzana) without my Nikon in tow. I couldn’t resist capturing a few snaps with my handy-dandy iPhone 5S. Following are a few of the images which I managed to preserve for posterity’s sake. A flower vendor and several fashionable young passers-by at Penn Station. Here is a fast food kiosk in Penn Station. The name […]

Flickr Me This, Batman

January 8, 2015 by Gina Marie

Photography is a passion of mine. While this website, virtuallygina.com, hosts a handful of my recent snaps, the truth is that I have been uploading the vast majority of my images to http://www.flickr.com/virtuallygina in recent months. It’s been my little secret, but I’m ready to share it. If you’re interested, take a peek. If not, no biggee. Most photos on the site don’t have captions, but the way I see it, the images should speak for themselves. Note: Images in […]
