Buried Treasure

January 24, 2016 by Gina Marie

The new year brings with it an opportunity to declutter one’s life and see things with brand new eyes. Beneath all the clutter, I sometimes find buried treasure — old artwork, journal entries, poetry, and photos that meant a lot to me on this journey to adulthood. The work featured below is a mixed media piece called “Two Men Walking Towards the Light.” In order to create symmetry in this piece, I digitally mirrored an original photo of a man walking through an archway beneath Philadelphia’s City Hall. […]

Boston Gallery, Version 2.0

November 10, 2015 by Gina Marie

In the early spring of 2014, I posted the original Boston Gallery. A year-and-a-half passed, and although I often intended to make another trip to Beantown, I could never seem to find the time. A few weeks ago, I finally carved time out of no time and trekked north, where I found the city as as picturesque as ever. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

Summertime By The Sea

July 27, 2015 by Gina Marie

Yesterday, I wandered a two block stretch of Sea Bright, one of the many seaside boroughs in Monmouth County, New Jersey. On this occasion, I challenged myself to take photos using solely manual settings on my Nikon D3100. After capturing these shots, I hopped into the car — taking a deep breath and inhaling the delightfully minty aroma of my new car freshener shaped like a flip-flop to complete the coastal experience. La dee dah . . . bumper-to-bumper traffic is to be expected along […]

The Princeton 15

July 10, 2015 by Gina Marie

Is it possible to fall in love with a university campus? If so, then Princeton has won my heart. I hope my sweetie Jeff doesn’t get too jealous. I drove 45 minutes west from my new hometown on the Shore, and lo and behold, found myself on the campus of one of America’s most prestigious institutions of higher education. I brought my camera and preserved 99 images on my trusty Nikon, of which I’ve whittled down to the following 15 for your pure […]

Up Before The Dawn

June 26, 2015 by Gina Marie

“It was an early morning yesterday I was up before the dawn And I really have enjoyed my stay But I must be moving on.” -Supertramp I recently closed the door on the Philadelphia chapter of my life. As I type these words, I’m in our new place a block from Long Branch Beach. I’m now officially a resident of this beachside town, but in so many ways I feel like a traveler just passing through. At the very least, my new environs provide […]

Farewell to a Wooded Wonderland

May 30, 2015 by Gina Marie

Four years ago, Philadelphia beckoned. With its historic streets, ample museums, and plethora of restaurants, there was never any reason to be bored.  What surprised me the most, though, was the vast geographic area the city took up (135 square miles, to be precise). Living in the northwest corner of the city, my husband Jeff and I often cruised a stretch of road called Lincoln Drive, which passed underneath a deeply forested area that reminded us of Jurassic Park. I […]

A Long Day in Long Branch

May 17, 2015 by Gina Marie

About a month ago, my husband took a job on the Jersey Shore, in a quaint little beach town called Long Branch. We are living two separate lives: me living and working in Philly with the dog as my at-home companion, him living and working in New Jersey with the cat as his housemate. With 80 miles between us, we only see each other on weekends. This weekend, it was my turn to visit. I clocked six miles strolling the […]

A New Addition

May 3, 2015 by Gina Marie

Josie found us in November. We brought her home on All Saints’ Day, or Day of the Dead. Six months later, she’s one of the family. Here she is pictured soaking up sunshine on her favorite ottoman.
