Spooky Photography

March 14, 2017 by Gina Marie

It’s official. Jeff and I will soon be New York transplants, as he recently took a job in Brooklyn. We began the apartment search last Sunday. On our drive to the first apartment viewing, we passed this curious-looking dwelling. I snapped a photo and upon returning home, noticed I captured but not one but two orbs in the photo, one at each window. Coincidence, flare effect, or evidence of spiritual activity? You decide.

Technicolor Staycation

July 7, 2016 by Gina Marie

As of today (Thursday) I’ve had one week off: no work, limited responsibility, and beautiful weather here on the shore. And my “staycation” is not over yet! I have three days left before a month-long trip to Minneapolis, wherein I’ll be participating in an intensive yoga teacher training. This trip will be the capstone of a year full of personal transformation on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. For me, the theme of the past 365 days has been “making […]

Beachy Morning on the Shore

June 19, 2016 by Gina Marie

Life is just beachy. As of this week, I’ve lived on the Jersey Shore for precisely one year . . . and when I say “on the shore,” I mean we are literally steps away from the beach. The curious thing is, I’ve only brought my good camera out there two or three times! I generally just bring my camera phone because it’s easier. To be fair, I have caught some great photos that way, as well. However, there’s nothing quite like a […]

When The Dead Speak

June 18, 2016 by Gina Marie

You find an old box of slides, untouched for years, containing images of loved ones long gone from the earthly plane. Get very quiet and you might hear them say: Come out and play . . . we’ll meet you halfway. Images are of my father, grandmother, and uncle, plus an unknown girl in the uppermost image. Originally captured in the 1960s and printed as slides, I used a Nikon to zoom into these images, thus converting them into digital format . . […]

Red Doors

April 25, 2016 by Gina Marie

When I see a red door, I am drawn to its whimsy and vibrancy. Inspired by the audacity of whoever painted such a color, I find myself wondering: what is the story here? It turns out there are quite a few reasons a person might paint their door red. In the ancient Chinese art of Feng Shui, a red door is said to draw welcoming energies into a home. Many Christian churches have red doors, a tradition stemming from an Old Testament story wherein the […]

A Stroll Through Downtown Portland, Maine

April 10, 2016 by Gina Marie

After several months of having lived in the extremely suburban Jersey Shore region, a visit to this hip urban New England city felt like a breath of fresh air for my soul. I loved the silhouette created by this couple against the backdrop of an urban scene in the bright afternoon sun. Passing a children’s boutique, I was poignantly reminded that my nephew Robbie would be turning six in a few weeks and I had no idea what to get him.  I took delight in the surreal effects […]

Uplifting Thoughts

March 30, 2016 by Gina Marie

I’m determined to remain teachable . . . 1) For an entirely new perspective, look up. See what beauty might be found aloft.  2) Be the beacon of light that shines in the darkness, in the chaos, in the ever-changing kaleidoscope of seasons and locations. 3) Each molecule is infused with the infinite.  4) Speak your truth, even if your voice shakes.  5) When day turns to night and the temperatures drop, there is beauty yet to be found. 6) Dare […]

Beautiful Thoughts

March 26, 2016 by Gina Marie

The wisdom of others teaches us how  . . . 1) We each have a human body that lasts a hundred years if we are lucky. Every moment, every interaction, every day we are given the opportunity to learn from each other. The most difficult situations can be our greatest teachers. 2) Companionship is present in our lives in many forms. We are never truly alone.   3) The sight of the sky is a reminder of freedom, expansiveness, and possibility.   […]

The Bridge That Glows Golden

February 14, 2016 by Gina Marie

It was nearly midnight on my last night in Budapest, and I was perched by a bay window in our room at the Sofitel, where my new husband and I were staying on the final night of our honeymoon. The room had a magnificent view of the Lanchid, or “Chain Bridge”, aglow with golden lights that spanned the Danube river. As I gazed out the window, I felt tears welling up in my eyes. * * * My father and his family […]
